Humanoid robotics for space missions.

RoBee, the cognitive humanoid robot developed by Oversonic, is part of a new wave of intelligent machines designed to work in extreme environments—including space. With a human-like form, advanced perception, and autonomous decision-making capabilities, RoBee offers a promising platform for supporting future orbital and lunar operations.

Oversonic’s vision for space robotics stems from the belief that humanoid systems will play a crucial role in enabling continuous human presence beyond Earth, starting with surface operations on the Moon and, one day, Mars.

Applied research in satellite navigation.

Oversonic and Qascom — an Italian leader in satellite navigation and space cybersecurity — have a long-standing collaboration in aerospace innovation. Together, the two companies were awarded a grant by the Italian Space Agency (ASI) to co-develop the Metropolitan Beacon System: an advanced infrastructure designed to ensure accurate positioning even in critical scenarios, such as urban environments with signal interference or future off-world operations.

As part of this R&D initiative, RoBee is being used as a testing platform for navigation and localization technologies. Its integrated sensing, mobility, and interaction capabilities enable real-world validation of these systems in both terrestrial and simulated space conditions.

Building on this foundation, Oversonic has taken a significant step toward bringing Italian humanoid robotics closer to space through a strategic alliance with Capgemini, Thales Alenia Space, and Altec Spa.

This partnership combines Oversonic’s expertise in autonomous cognitive systems with the aerospace engineering and mission operations capabilities of its collaborators.

The goal is to explore RoBee’s potential in future orbital and planetary missions, where its human-like form and AI-driven autonomy could support inspection, maintenance, and crew interaction in extreme environments. This alliance marks the beginning of a new chapter in integrating advanced robotics into space exploration.
